The Search for Evangeline (License C)
The Search for Evangeline is a homage to 100 years of feature film-making in Canada. Evangeline was the first feature film made in Canada in 1913 and shot in Nova Scotia based upon a Longfellow poem written in 1847 depicting the expulsion of the Acadian population. Shbib seeks to find out what there remains of this first Canadian feature film, and why and how it was produced. The film also examines the historical narratives, and institutional memories in contemporary Acadian society of their expulsion and subsequent resettlement.
